Artistic Director, Conductor
Eric Riley was appointed as the Wheatland Chorale's Artistic Director in the Spring of 2012. He is currently the artist in residence at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, PA, after nine years as the organist and director of music at Harrisburg's Market Square Presbyterian Church.
As graduate of Syracuse University School of Music with a degree in organ performance, Eric later earned his Master's in Music from the Scarritt Graduate School of Vanderbilt University.
In addition to leading various church choirs, his post-graduate conducting history includes an eleven year stint as Associate Artistic Director of the Voices of Canton, Inc. in Canton, OH. Eric has also served as a guest conductor and performer at music festivals is Ravenna, Bologna, and Assisi in Italy.
Eric currently lives in Hummelstown, PA with his wife Christine, who sings Alto in the chorale. In addition to his conducting duties, Eric shines as an organ performer with multiple European performance trips. One Italian paper reported that Eric "enchanted the audience with magic at the organ".
Emery DeWitt serves as the Wheatland Chorale's associate conductor. He is the founder (in 2003) and Artistic Director of Musical Associates, a chamber choir based in Lancaster, PA. He is also Director of Music at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, where he administers the traditional music programs and conducts the adult ensembles.
Emery earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory in 1978 from Mississippi College. Beginning in 2002, he spent two years in residence at the Pennsylvania State University, earning a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting. While at Penn State, he studied conducting with Lynn Drafall, and served as assistant conductor of both the University Choir and the Glee Club.
In addition to his duties as a singer and conductor, Emery recently retired as an oboist after having played several seasons with Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster. Emery resides in Lancaster, PA with his wife, Mary Ellen DeWitt, who sings soprano in the chorale.
Peggy Grabowski serves as the rehearsal and performance accompanist for the Wheatland Chorale. After graduating from West Chester University with degrees in voice and piano, Peggy taught K-12 music and was a chorus director for almost 30 years in the Ephrata, Linden Hall, Hempfield, and Manheim Township school districts.
Peggy continues to teach piano privately and serves as a church organist/pianist. She resides in Elizabethtown, PA with her husband, Don, who is also a music teacher and orchestra director. Peggy has three grown sons - Paul, Steven, and Benjamin.
